Grandad and i are taken the enfield mk3 and m14 out for mule this year but we were told we couldnt as the mags both hold ten rounds and we would have to pin them. iv looked but can not find anything on the limits in saskatchewan.

Sask hunting regs for (shot guns only) states "no more than 3 rounds in the firearm" 2 in the tube and 1 in the chamber.

There are no magazine capacity limits for centre fire rifles that are published in the 2016 Hunters and Trappers Guide.

That said, if a CO comes across you in the field with a semi-auto, with a magazine holding more than 5 rounds, you can expect to have to answer some questions at the very least. Worst case scenario, you get you firearm seized and a notice to appear citation.

Better off just using a 5 or a 5/10 or a 5/20 magazine than your AIA enfield 10 round magazine.

My $.02

If you use an over capacity mag in a semi-auto, regardless if you legally purchased it or legally posses it for another firearm, you can get pinched for an over capacity mag in a semi auto..... Simple.

I didn't know that.. is that a Sask hunting or FA regulation?
Can you point where this is written? Because unless its a hunting reg I have been misled by the NFS, CSSA CFFR RCMP and any number of alphabet orgs.

I think there is a sk provincial hunting Reg on CF Mag capacity (I think), but there's nothing wrong with a 10rd pistol mag (XCR) in my semi auto modern hunter, unless I'm hunting.

I thought the 5 rd limit only applied to semi autos. Your Winchester.30-30 holds more than 5 and
no-one is going to complain about that. I intend to hunt on Nov 11 with my no4 Enfield like I do every year.

"I'm not hunting, Sir, I'm plinking in the woods."

The following is from the RCMP site and states clearly to me that magazine capacity for semi automatic rifles is 5 regardless of the source. You might not be committing a wildlife offence with an overcap magazine but I don't think any CO would let a prohibited magazine slide.

3. Magazines designed or manufactured for both centrefire calibre semiautomatic rifles and other (non-semiautomatic) rifles

Magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic rifle are limited to five cartridges. However, magazines designed to contain centrefire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a rifle other than a semiautomatic or automatic rifle, do not have a regulated capacity. Magazines that are designed or manufactured for use in both semiautomatic rifles and other (non-semiautomatic) rifles are subject to the semiautomatic rifle limit of five cartridges.

Example:
Remington model 7615 pump action rifle chambered for 223 Remington caliber:

the 10 round magazine is prohibited
the five round magazine is unregulated

Just asked my old man, who is a almost 40yr SK CO. No provincial regs that limit centerfire Mag capacity, only federal.

Only provincial regs are 2+1 in your shotgun while bird hunting. No limit it hunting deer with a shotgun.

Now, can someone remind me why a modern hunter in legal with an 10rd XCR Mag???

The AIA mags aren't designed or manufactured for a semi auto, they just happen to fit in them.

Just like LAR pistol mags are for a pistol, but fit in a rifle.

Just like XCR pistol mags are for a pistol, but fit in a rifle.

Just like Glock 17 mags are for a pistol, but fit in a rifle.
