Is there a license required for an out of province hunter to shoot gophers..?
Checked out the HAL website, but didn't see a answer..

There is nothing in the regulations, because ground squirrels are not considered game animals in Saskatchewan.

Thanks.

I'll be in Saskatchewan in July... Hope to find the time and place to do a little gopher shooting'...

Only SK residents may hunt coyotes though.

They should change that.

Canadian residents on whitetail hunts should be able to legally help reduce the coyote population. Either by having it open or having a special permit/tag.

The deer need some help after the past few winters.

They had a special tag for awhile, even Americans could get them. One problem was almost nobody bought it. The other was some of those that did, apparently couldn't tell the difference between a coyote and a deer and it was just a licence to poach. Between the two, we'll never see that again.

Yup! That is what a C.O told a buddy of mine in the Waterfowl guiding business when he inquired about why his clients could not hunt coyotes. He was told American hunters were using the coyote hunting allowance to poach deer.
The deer are starting to show up again around my place. The coyote population took a steep nose dive since I moved in here  ;). In fact the first one to set foot here in months appeared the other day while I was bbq'ng. Most nights it was common to hear packs but not a peep since about Feb. One of the neighbouring farmers said "you've sure put a hurt on them I haven't seen one in months"! :)

Those of us who hunt them for profit would prefer non Residents leave them alone.

No such thing as a small game license in SK. You need a bird license to hunt birds and big game licenses for big game species but aside from that, that is it. Only SK residents may hunt coyotes though.

You would think so if you read the regs. Non residents may hunt coyotes in sask. On reserve land, if the band has approved being an outfitter and you are willing to pay. If you want to shoot a moose in June you may do so as well if the band approves. Wildlife on reserve land in saskatchewan belong to them to do so as they please.

I am not touching on reserve issues. The natives in SK do not have an exclusive on doing what they want on rez property. It applies to all natives on all native lands Canada wide.

Yep a few idiots ruin it for everyone. They will never allow non residents to hunt coyotes again.

Good luck finding many gophers, my pastures are pretty much gopher free. If it doesn't rain soon they will be grass free as well.

Still have areas in my neck of the woods with some good pastures. Especially on the AB side where poisoning is no longer allowed according to the farmers whose pastures I shoot on. I've shot about 200 in one pasture this spring so far and about 1,000 on it last spring and summer. Thats good in my books. Last time out I took my Ruger #1 22-250 instead of my 10/22 and shot off 5 boxes of ammo before calling it a day. :)

I'm headed out to the Moose Jaw area from south of Ottawa July 10-20, we have a couple friends out there that are getting married, so my wife is in the wedding and I'm looking forward to getting out hunting, he has set up some farms to head to apparently, so I'm hoping there are some squirrels there when I get there..
