sask varmint hunting with fmj

They are not legal for game animals. So no on the coyotes and the boar are still kinda a grey area. No season and really not much for rules. They say you need permission from both the land owner and the RM but I don't know of anyone who actually asked for or got permission from the RM. The sows and piglets are fantastic on the table and the boars are ok for sausage. They can be kinda strong on their own. Good luck

FMJ are not ideal for hunting. Great for target shooting as long as you have a very good backstop. Dutch

Save the FMJ for target shooting. Illegal to use for hunting in any areas I know of.
Wounding a big old boar with FMJ could result in some one getting hurt. The chance of a wounded animal getting away is fairly high with the use of FMJ. They are tough. Use an adequate caliber and bullet type on those guys.
They can be as mean as they are ugly.

If you want many of your animals to run off into the bush to die where you are unlikely to find them, then FMJ is an ideal choice.

If you want your game to die cleanly, quickly, and humanely so you can use hides or meat, then do not use FMJ even if it happens to be legal.

FMJ is not legal for hunting SK big game. The SK regs do not mention any ammunition restriction for hunting fur bearing animals except that in some situations only a rimfire firearm is legal. A wild boar is not a game animal in SK, so big game hunting regulations do not apply while hunting them, except trespass and firearm safety regulations - no shooting after dark for example. Wild boar may be considered escaped farm animals in some RM's so be sure you have RM and landowner permission before your hunt.

Pigs might vary from RM to RM in Saskatchewan as to status as livestock or pest, but they are never a big game animal so legally there are no problems with ammo types. Big game needs an expanding bullets. Coyotes are either a pest or a furbearer depending on who's shooting and where its standing so FMJ are legal. While we're at it bears are either a big-game animal, fur-bearer or pest depending on who and where the shooting is being done by, but legally they require expanding bullets.

That's the legality, but the bigger question is why would you want to use the FMJs? They aren't good for much, unless you never want to see the animal again.

Thanks for the comments guys.
I don't intend to use fmj
It's just that the last few times I was in the bush shooting
I saw boar and coyote.
And if it as legal as I only had fmj with me
Lesson learned carry a box of hunting ammo in range bag just in case.

cant say enough AGAINST the use of fmj for coyotes. i have a friend who was shooting some problem coyotes on the farm this year with 223 fmj and giving them to me. it seems of the 2 situations that happens when shooting coyotes with fmj are 1. coyote is hit and drops leaving a gaping exit wound where the bullet hit bone and tumbled taking bone and bullet fragments out the back. or 2. coyote is hit and the bullet zips right through and the coyote runs into the bush to die somewhere unknown.
