Spring is just around the corner and hopefully my first bear season. For those living in the beautiful Saskatchewan (especially around Regina) what is my chance to be a successful hunter in wmz 34,35,36,38. Any hint where to try for my first season? Unfortunately I don't have enough time to do it during the week so most likely it'll happen on a weekend or a Friday. thanks

There is black bear in 34 & 35 for sure. Getting access to private land in those zones is getting more difficult every year.

I think these zones and in the Assiniboine Valley just across the border into Manitoba has some of the best black bear hunting opportunities around.

Running a bear bait is difficult and expensive. Ideally the bait should be refreshed every few days minimum once you get bears coming in. Also keeping the barrel full can be quite expensive.

I have access on private land in 34 next to some forested area in Maryfield. The farmer doesn't know if any bear is in the area as he's not interested in hunting. Land is posted so I shouldn't see anyone else around me. Just not sure if any bear is in the area.

Not a decent winter in Saskatoon for someone who works at snow-clearing. But from farmers around here I gather they think they don't mind, enough water in the ground from last summer and crops they couldn't finish combining. Not sure how the bears feel about it all but there aren't any in the immediate WMZs.

I wonder if Lesnar hunts black bear in 34?

If you're close to a valley like the Pipestone you'll see bears. I've heard of 1 bear walking through a farmers yard north of Fleming a few years ago.

I guarantee if you could set up in the Qu'Appelle Valley in 35 you would see bears on a bait daily.

I have been thinking the same about the warm winter we are also having (AB) and what our plans will be for the spring hunt: same timeline or perhaps earlier this year. Best of luck and let us know how things turn out.

Can't wait for this spring season! We run a bait in the forest and have had a beautiful blond bear coming in for the last 3 years but never when we're in the stand. Maybe this will be the year. Also going to be the boys first big game hunt so super excited about that as well. Hopefully he'll get a crack at the blond.
