In south central sask, along border, ussually i rattle 3 or 4 ( or more) thousand shells through my ruger 10/22 shooting pasture rats per year, not much to shoot at anywhere i have looked this year. the local Old boys say the gophers get sick if it stays wet for too long, kills them all off, a few years ago i was at places where i would sit still in one 1/4 section all afternoon and shoot 750 rounds or more.......This year they are so sparse i can spend the money and use .17 hmr or .223 to flatten them, not shooting as much means i dont feel as bad using "funner" more expensive to shoot guns to dispatch the few i have been seeing. Kinda been making the long range gopher hunt the new normal, not about quantity anymore, so i try to make it about quality. smoking the 250 yard gopher with the .223 is fun, just wish there were more.
