Hi all
I spoke to some of the guys at the range, and most agree that we all spend way too much time at the range shooting of benches.
and we get those great groups we all bragg about.
But I find that myself and most of us can bearl hit a barn at 100 y off hand!

I have been pondering this for some time now and want to propose a practical shooting series/tourney to SWF management.
I am busy with my research on how to go about things (rules etc.)
First off all I need to know how much interest there is. If we can start out with 5 guys who attend regularly it will allready be worth the effort.
I hope it will grow from there.
The aim of this will be to improve our shooting ability in the field when deer hunting. So I was thinking: Shooting X amount of rounds at X distance in the prone, sitting/kneeling position, and standing position.

Ofcourse there will have to be some caliber restrictions as well as scope magnification restrictions.
Just to keep things fair and affordable to everyone.

If the numbers of people are there I am sure we could get some kind of trophy or some such for the highest scoring shooter.
etc. the sky is the limit.

If any of you are interested please say yay and those who think it's a good Idea say nay.
Please PM me if you have any suggestions or if you are willing to help me with planning this so we can get it off the ground.
Regards Boer

I sent you a long PM of ideas.
In short, put on a Rifle Rodeo.
Currently there are 3 Rodeo's in Alberta
Early June in Ft. McMurray(catinthehat)
Mid August in Drayton Valley (mine)(see events calender)
And Sept. long weekend in Ponoka
All three test the shooters ability and get them of the bench.

Boer Seun,
I'd be interested if I am around. That's always iffy. Very few people shoot from field positions, very seldom do I see anyone other than myself doing it. I can hit a barn.;)

Well I'll start getting things of the ground then....
I have emailed SA hunters and conservation association and asked what their methods is like. And with the input from lefty #### and others We should have it set soon.
Would anyone object to shooting in Winter too or should this be a spring/summer activity only?
I'd be interested, sounds like a useful skill-builder!
That will be our main focus. The competative part will be only to make it more fun :)

We have a well protected ( enclosed by railway ties, proper backstop, etc.)
6" very thick steel plate @ 100 yds at our Club.

Stops most of the "BS" right then and there : See if you can "ring the gong" 5 out of 5 off-hand with open sights.... then we'll listen to your deer hunting exploits and stories a little more intently !

Good idea but other than counting the number off hits there is no other way of keeping score.
May still inc. it some hows somewhere.
So far I have about 6 guys interested so not bad for a start but if we can get 2000 people fcukin-A!

Count me in, winter sounds good too. Heck the Swiss, Finns, Nords, what-have-you do it all year as a national past time, then so can we.
Would you consider a BP shoot as well? I will need the practice as I'm in the process of bringing home an omega.
Off-hand is the least practiced (in my mind) and if a few guys can collectively help one another out, the freezers will be full this winter.

BP is a good idea too! but think it should be split in two one for people shooting with glass and one for people with Iron-sights.
Well I am on it so I hope that we can get this off the ground ASAP.
