The SASS 2024 Canadian National Cowboy Action Championship will be held at Saskatoon. Main Match runs August 2,3 and 4. Hosted by the Saskatoon Muzzleloading Club, just west of the city, this should be a great event for Cowboy Action enthusiasts of all ages. The good folks at SMLC always put on a good time. Great hospitality. Fun, action and family friendly atmosphere.

For further details, go to the SAWWS.com website.

Garand: Fully agree! Like you, I have competed at SMLC cowboy matches on a number of occasions. Always came away, with a big smile on my face. Should be a great event... featuring some of the top cowboy action shooters...not only from Canada but, in the sport. Plus: Wild Bunch action and side events . I am counting down the days.

vagrantviking: It is a nice range, isn't it? . The folks at SMLC/SAWWS have dedicated a lot of time and hard work into building the dedicated cowboy action range. It seems all that effort is finally paying off. Hosting the National has been a long time coming. Well deserved.

Cold Lake Kid: The SMLC grounds offers plenty of space for RV's of all sizes. Dry camping, of course. I have camped there myself. Camping areas are within a short walking distance from either the main club house, event tent(s) and cowboy range. There will be someone onsite to direct campers to the appropriate area. So. of you plan on bringing your RV....you can be sure of a good spot.
Based on my personal experience... I think camping onsite offers the best of all worlds...as competitors (time permitting) have the option to take in all the side matches and other events going on throughout the week(July 29-Aug 1), prior to the National. Starting with the "Legend of Greybeard" tribute match, on July 27 and 28.
By the way, all events at SMLC are very family friendly. There is also a strict "no noise" policy in effect, after 11 pm, each night. It gets very quiet out there at night.

Alex,
Thanks for posting this info. We are looking forward to a full 10 days of Cowboy Shooting with the Legacy of Grey Beard the weekend before.

Check the Saskatchewan Association of Wild West Shooters website or FB page for more info.

About 12 years ago, on the morning of my wifes 1st local CAS match a friend dropped over early on the way to the range. The match director for that match was known for calling a safety meeting for 9 am and getting the first round down range by 11 am. So we were not in a hurry as the vehicles were loaded. I was in the middle of breakfast and my wife asked my buddy if he wanted breakfast. He said sure so my wife tossed a couple of eggs in the frying pan and put some Cosco pre cooked bacon in the micro wave for him.

Unfortunately she didn't read the directions, you were supposed to put each slice in for 10 seconds, not 1 minute! Needless to say what happened.

We got out to the range about 30 minutes later and grouped up drinking coffee and talking to friends about the morning so far. One of our friends asked my wife what her Cowboy name was. She hadn't picked one yet. He suggested "Burnt Bacon" and it stuck.
