The weather has finally warmed up here and most of the snow is gone, I finally got to try out my new Sauer 100 xt classic in 6.5x55 Swedish topped with a SigSauer Tango 4, 4-16x44 scope. I was blown away by the accuracy of this rifle. All the loads I tried, some factory and some hand loads all averaged at least. 3/4 moa or less at 100 yards. Several of the 3 shot groups using hand loads with Hornady 143 grn Eld-x and Lapua 139 gr hp bullets were less than 1/2 moa. I am totally amazed by the accuracy of what is considered an entry level, factory made, straight out of the box hunting/sporter rifle from Sauer. I’m sure the 6.5x55 cartridge has a lot to do with the accuracy potential but still none the less, I would have to say that in my 47 years of hunting and shooting this is by far the most accurate out of the box, factory made hunting rifle I have ever owned or shot. The trigger is also amazing straight out of the box, very impressed with the performance and quality of this rifle for the money spent.

I've got an older Sauer 80 action 6.5, it's a typical over-complicated German thing with retracting bolt lugs and rollers in the trigger, but it sure is accurate. Best so for is 3 shots just under 3/4" at 200m. It's got the nicest trigger pull of any gun I've shot with the exception of a set trigger.

I like the forward thinking in the design of the Sauer 100 coupled with the machining quality. They should sell a fair pile of these and for good reasons.

Speaking of machining quality. Another thing that I noticed is that with the scope windage adjustment set in the center of its adjustment range, when I zeroed the rifle at 100 yards, the windage adjustment knob only needed three clicks left of dead center of its range. That tells me that the barrel is straight, the crown is cut square, the barrel is threaded true to the action and the scope base mounting holes are also drilled square and true in the action, quit impressive indeed. Really with the quality of machining and tooling equipment available today there is no reason NOT for everything not to be machined and assembled true in perfect alignment but unfortunately due to poor quality control and sloppy setup and workmanship this is often not the case with many manufacturers these days.

The 101 has a press fit barrel rather than threaded like the 100 and also a different type of safety, other than that I believe they are very similar.

The accuracy is more the gun than the caliber. My 101 in 30 06 is sub MOA accurate even with the cheapest off the shelf ammo. While my 202 in 300wby is accurate but very picky about its projectiles. In that case it is more of a caliber thing than the gun. All in all Sauer makes some impressively accurate long guns.

Excellent choice!
Friend of mine got one recently (also in 6.5x55) and it is very accurate.

Man that's encouraging to hear. Been thinking of picking one up in .243 just to have something different. Tikka is normally my go to "bang for buck" rifle but like the look of the Sauer 100 and sounds like they perform too.

Cheers

Nice results from your Sauer. The 6.5x55 Swede is an essential character of accuracy, followed by a good quality rifle. Also, give yourself credit for your marksmanship!

If anyone could take some pictures of the bolt head, the extractor/ejector setup is what I'm curious about. Also what kind of recoil lug/bedding arrangement they use?

If you do a google search there are quite a few reviews and YouTube videos on the Sauer 100 that explain how the action is bedded and show the bolt head.
