I just bought a good used 202 in Classic. I have a Sako 85 as well (bavarian) . Ultimately you are comparing the actions and accuracy after you decide whether or not to use open sights or not. First off, the sauer was dramatically more expensive. (both used, both in EXCELLENT shape) -- sauer was 2500, sako was 1600. Comparing the actions, as smooth as the Sako is (you read it all over this forum) , the Sauer is half again as smooth. It makes the Sako feel slightly clunky. -- but i am splitting hairs, since the Sako itself is fantastic.
My sako is 7mmRM, while the Sauer is 30.06. The Sako is much heavier, but almost the same size otherwise. I have not compared the medium action sako-- it may be right in there with the Sauer.
Performance wise, they are both Lasers. I had both rifles at the 200y range on Monday, side by side, with my pathetic shooting skills, but cradled, i threw 3 x3 shot groups at 2 side by side targets. alternate shots were touching. after cooldown i redid the test, and the results were basically the same. we are talking 2 inch groups consistently for both rifles at 200y with factory ammo (Winchester silver tips and rem core lokt --120g and 180g). Somebody with a better rest and better skills could probably have tightened them up.
I love these guns.
If it were me though, and i had to choose, , i would prob choose the sauer, since they don't have the same ejection issue prevalent in the 85, and they are rare here in canada.
