Just called Epps to double check my order! Now I'm awaiting this:

Savage 10 FCP-SR! .308 with a 10 round detachible magazine! Comes with a 20 moa once piece scope base as well which is nice. Also the barrel is threaded for those illegal suppressors....

Set me back $1023 plus taxes and shipping :(

Seems a bit steep to me. I'm not sure what you could get the scope for, but you could have had the rifle for under $700 when they were new (mine was $650 if I'm not mistaken). Jerry lists the stock for $255 on his web site. If it looks like it's been well used I think it's too much.

If you have a workable scope at home (what self respecting GN doesn't?). They have a 12 F/TR with a 1 in 7 tube for under $1200 at Epps. You want a nice rifle...

 Makes me wish my bank account had that total in blalck insted of red...

The scope new is about $520 from the places Ive looked at.

I was looking at picking up another Savage 10PC, granted after buying rifle for $800, same scope, etc it would come out to slight more than this use one.

Not too long ago I saw a Savage F/TR with a Bushnell 6500 (can't remember the model) for under $1400. The rifle was mint, not a mark on it. Granted it was a great deal, but it shows they are out there.

It might cost you more to buy the above rifle new but that doesn't make it a good deal.

Yeah thats why I wanted to ask what someone thought first.

But one thing I have to remember is I no longer have access to the great deals anymore. :(

Sure you do. There's a few nice used rifle at Epps. You want a deal? There's a 30-06 with a stainless Mclennan barrel that's been there for quite awhile. I'll bet if it's not a consignment item you could get them to give you a deal on a good scope to go with it for under $1000. There will likely be a set of used dies in the pile too if you don't have any for 30-06. What's not to like about that?

Cause I have a couple hundred rounds of .308 sitting in the safe with nothing to shoot it with :D

If you're talking about the Savage 110 on page 3, the only thing I don't like is a hardwood stock. I've got enough wood stock rifles as it is :p

I'll keep looking through Ellwood Epps and see if anything else catches my eye.

Does nothing for me.
I would do a bit more homework before I'd shell out that
kind of Kerch$ng.

Ive paid that and more for a couple of my guns :D

I had a rifle just like the one from Epps except mine was a Sniper Stock instead of the Varmint. Thing shot like a dream and I regret selling it. :(

Seems a little high. You can easily build one through Jerry for under $1200 (without the scope) and have something very accurate.

Who is Jerry? And yes I can go out and find many other rifles for just over $1000, but then add to that a decent set of optics, base, and rings, and I go over my $1500 budget. Thus I'm semi stuck buying used. Not many retailers sell used rifles that interest me.

So I guess I have to keep looking and hoping Epps posts something of a deal.

Must be .308
Would prefer Savage
Must have a bull barrel
With optics must be under my $1500 budget

:p

epps has a savage "10FCP ACCUSTOCK LAW ENFORCEMENT DIGITAL CAMO / 10-ROUND MAG" with a pic rail for 1032.20, good rings cost a 100 and a vortex scope will cost 400....

I too was looking at that and it's a nice looking rifle. Sadly that puts me over my $1500 budget considering the taxes :(

You know if you buy that rifle, get a normal set of rings, and a Busnell Elite 10X40 you'll be just under your $1500 dollar cap with taxes.

So it won't be super tac cool without the over priced rings and the sort of great scope. It will work just as well as what you were planing on getting. Do you want to shoot your rifle or your gun?

Then you can start saving (and shooting) for a really nice scope.

It's not about saving money, it's only about what I can get away with spending ;)
