Hi guys,

I'm in need of some suggestions as to if I need/what muzzle device to use on a Savage 10BA .308.

I'm looking at purchasing a barrelled action in .308. It is from a Savage 10BA and includes a heavy fluted barrel which should help manage recoil a bit. I am looking at muzzle brakes mostly, but am completely new to all of this precision rifle business. Would it be completely senseless to install a compressor?

I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to muzzle brake because of the increased noise, but would like something to manage muzzle rise/recoil.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks
Ben

The best advice might be to follow the suggestion of the gunsmith you choose to install the brake. His tooling might well dictate which brake he can install in the least amount of time, and with shop time going for upwards of $100/hr, time is money.

Totally agree with Boomer, I can almost guarantee your smith will keep something in stock. When it comes to the 308, brakes are all very comparable to one another. If you shoot prone a lot a Vais type brake will kick up a lot of crap and can be annoying.

The Savage 10BA comes pre threaded in 5/8-24 which is the most popular diameter/thread pitch for .308.
I have the factory brake on mine and it works quite well but if I was in the market for another brake I would go with either the Surefire Pro Comp or SOCOM.
