Picked up a 10FP the other day but at home noticed some bore damage just inside muzzle. Since I'm going to have to return it maybe I should take a mod 12. Is there any diff? Beside the Tac cool and 2" of tube. The cal is 223. Also does bore damage in manufact procs happen very often? It looks like it's been peened in a few places. The tube was very dirty as well. I scrubbed the the thing 5 times thinking the damage was some kind of scunge. The patches were still coming out dirty!

:) I could go for a Remington too but I wanted something that was easy to swap barrels. The 10FP has the old nut, I figure it will make it simpler if I try it myself. Savage? My mdl 25 shot under .25 moa at 100 yds. Best group .173". Why switch brands?

The actions are pretty much the same. One barrel shouldn't outshoot the other. You should go with whatever is easier on the pocket book. That being said, I have a 10FP with a choate stock and I wish I had the HS precision stock.

Depends on where it is, I'd say shoot it first to confirm. I noticed little issues very close to the muzzle on my 10FCP and it still shot half in groups at 100, and I still participated in matches out to 700 with it. It doesn't 'always' mean you have a poor shooter.

Shoot it and produce groups, if it shoots poorly then you can get Savage to sort it out for you. Savage wants your business, do them a favor as well and find out if it is crap or not before you send it back. Model 12's are a good choice too, but its your call of course.

I've had too many headaches dealing with warranties. I think it's better to exersize my right as a consumer and return it unused. Who wants to spend all that time and $ working up a load only to find the thing is never going to shoot well. I want an undamaged bore in my new rifle. Something smells about this rifle the damaged and horribly dirty bore leaves me thinking best get rid of it while it's a simple task.
