savage 10fp is it a good buy?

It's not the weight that's the problem, it's the balance. You really have to try packing a front heavy rifle around for more than 50 yards before you'll understand what a pain in the arse it is. You can't sling it properly and carrying it is fine if you don't need your hands for anything else as it will require both hands. There are plenty of rifles intended for hunting that are more than accurate enough to make this a second choice for most guys. Not saying you shouldn't buy what ever you want for heading out hunting, just keep in mind what the rifle was intended for, that's all.
 
WTF do you wany for $800...?
A .227 inch group at 100 yards with some quickly thrown together handloads is okay I guess...
