I keep hearing about large & small shank Savage recievers and I'm trying to find out what mine would be. I picked up a used Savage 10FP reciever, post accu-trigger aged.....hopefully someone here will know the answer.

Usually the large shank are used on the short magnum receivers and for the Savage target rifles (FTR, etc...). Most other savages are the standard (small) shank models. If you are completely unsure, give savage a call. They can search your serial # and tell you for sure. I checked with savage as I wasn't sure.

Look at the barrel infront of the nut. If there is a step in the barrel, you have a large shank.
otherwise, you have a small or standard shank.
