Well, I just got back from the range testing out my new toy. What a shooter! It has the Choate stock with a 20" bull barrel. All I can say is WOW! I was shooting the Winny White box 45gr. JHP's and my gun likes em!:D I bore sighted at 150 yards and went from there. My groups were .925" at the largest down to a dot of .586" all at 150 yards! Here are a few pics of the best group.
One question about the gun though. The Owner's manual (yes I read it!) states it has a 4 round mag, yet I can put 6 in it. How can I limit an internal box mag to 4?

If and when I take my rifle hunting, I'm allowed a max of 5 (4 in mag and 1 in chamber). I don't want to get nailed for some stupid draconian law. With groups like that, who needs 2 shots? :p

That law stands for semi-autos....not bolt actions. I have an Enfield that holds 10 rounds. 11 if I rock one in the pipe. There's nothing illegal about using it for hunting.

If you wanted to you could buy a Davidson follower for your savage that would turn it into a single shot!:D ( not that I couls ever figure out why anybody could have trouble chambering a single round with the standard follower!)

Don't laugh about the scope. It was a Bushnell Sportview 3x9x32 w/ao that I bought off Pete (375RUM on the board). I bought the scope to put on my slug gun. It was the only scope in the stable without a home at the time. The crosshairs were so thick that they covered the red dot at 150 yards. I had to align the crosshairs in the scope with the ones on paper. Now to upgrade this scope to a larger magnification. Here's a pic of the gun as it sits now.

It can be tricky on the Savage to single load. You pretty much either hafta insert the round well into the chamer... which is hard if you have big digits or snap the round into the mag and let the bolt strip it off and chamber it.
Laying the round loose on top of the mag will likely result in a mis fed round.
Been there done that.
