I have one of these in stainless w/thumbhole stock. The first round (after at least an overnight wait) loads and shoots well. Recoil like a 30-06, nice round hole in target, all looks good.

After waiting until the barrel cooled, loaded a second round and no bang, just a quiet pop. It has done this twice (on two separate days). The second bullet either remains in the barrel, or pops out the end of the barrel and lands 20 feet from the shooting bench.

I'm using Barnes 290 grain Spit-Fire bullets with supplied sabots, using 55 grains VV N120. I have also converted the breech plug and bolt face to use large rifle primers, instead of 209 shotgun primers. Currently using CCI 200 large rifle primers. I had the same issue using both primers (ie before and after conversion).

Am I just not waiting long enough between shots? Today the temp here was about 1 degree Celsius, with snow on the ground. The barrel was quite cold to the touch before I loaded the second round.

Please let me know.

Thank You.

I had this problem before, only mine would not burn the powder when fired. Found out I was using the wrong type of sabot. I continue to use shotgun primers, along with traditions high pressure sabots for .44 handgun bullets, on top of accurate 5744 powder, measured with a 30-30 casing. I never had to wait between shots, with this powder. Hope this helps. Royce

It sounds to me like your sabot is too loose a fit and your getting poor ignition as a result. Not all sabot/bullet combos work the same.
In my stainless MLII I use the MMP sabot or Harvester crush ribs. I use a Federal or Winchester 209 primer.
I typically use N110 with a 300 gr Hornady and have zero issues.
I highly recommend Doug's Message Boards for load info.
