Picked up a new Savage 10T-SR today, and a box of Hornady Match 108gr ELD-M to sight in with (factory ammo). Go to range, go to load a shell into the chamber and the bolt stops about 3/8" short of closing. WTF. Eject shell (hard to do sharpie and shade the lead black to see if its hitting the lands or what. No marks on the sharpie, but I did notice some rifling marks on the lower part of the lead just past O-Give. Ok, get my callipers out, measure the OAL of the factory round. 2.790", well according to Hodgdon load data the OAL should be 2.770".
So the real question is, did Hornady mess up and I just have to seat these factories down further? Or is there something wrong with the rifle? I did read Savage cuts the chambers a little short sometimes, but I wanna know if its rifle issue, or ammo issue. Anyone else experience this before? I do plan on loading for this rifle with 107gr SMK's so I can seat em shorter, but the fact that factory ammo, doesn't fit in a factory rifle kinda worries me.
