Savage officially suck!!

I recently bought a rifle knowing that the bottom bolt release didnt function, with the intention of a quick swap of the broken part and I'd be sitting on a safe, quality long range shooter. its just past 6 months out of warranty so theres no option for a free repair. Looks like the arm that woild make contact with the release button snapped clean off the sear so the only way to remove the bolt is to take it out of the
accustock.

I called Savage customer service to purchase the replacement part and they won't sell the part to me...nooo sir, they will only sell it to a licensed gunsmith. WTF!? Can you say customer service? I don't want to jump through hoops to have to obtain a replacement sear and to be honest, their attitude has annoyed me to the point that where I don't know if I want to own a Savage. Their customer aftercare sucks. Why bother to build and sell a rifle that has such restrictions on small parts and not look after the customer? It's just not cricket!!

Has anyone heard of this part failing or had a hands on success at a fix for it? I'm no tig welder so I'm thinking that maybe some epoxy and a steel shim would work? What say you with more knowledge on these things than I?

Never had that issue so I can't speak to fixes, but why not just have a gunsmith order and fix it? They are good guns. At least your not in my position where I bought one brand new but second owner and it won't bore sight. So it's either been drilled and tapped off centre or has a bent barrel. Savage won't touch it.

I have a 10tr, and no issues with it at all. It sucks that they won’t send you the part. You may be stuck having a gunsmith order the part and then install it yourself. Speak with one of the board sponsors that deal with savage like bulleyelondon or Africa, they might be able to get their hands on the part... Did you speak with savage in the US or Canada? I had a defective 10rd magazine for my 10tr, they sent me a replacement for free, didn’t even have to send the old one back.

I spoke with Savage US. I have a mail box across the border and thought it would be cheaper to ship it there and collect than cross border shipping.

try giving Savage Canada a shout they might be a little more helpful... (705) 652-8000 ext. 5101, if you have the part number, make sure to have it ready cause they do take forever searching for it.

The licenced gunsmith is to prevent somebody coming back on them and suing. Many parts are only sold to licenced gunsmiths with the idea they will know what to do with them correctly. Plays off the manufacturers insurance and puts it on the installers.

Would you know where I can find a parts list for the Savage 10, by chance?

As I understand it savage was selling to Americans direct fairly recently. Not sure if that’s changed.

Call Savage US. The will help you. They sent me to Getch??? Its in Ontario. They mailed me out new firing pin springs. Sorted out my issues. Savage Canada never returned any of my calls. Useless.

Savage have certain restrictions on some of their parts. I did speak with Savage US and they will not sell me the part as it's a gunsmith only item.

Any ideas on a home fix that doesn't involve welding? Some form of epoxy plastic or something to attach to the sear? I don't foresee any "safety issues" as the bolt release doesn't affect either the safety or the trigger directly.....I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Funny they won't sell this part to you but will ship the update replacement parts for the B Mag at no charge due to a liability issue.

Thanks to everyone that has offered help but I'm not going to go any further in this journey. I'm posting it for sale and letting more patient souls take a stab at it. Savage can go f*%k themselves and their policy.

Yeah, that is quite a bad break... but a light touch with a TIG or MIG and a lever could be attached and problem solved. Don't bother using the factory release on the trigger guard but a knob on the inside of the trigger guard. It will actually work nicer.

I am very surprised that Savage will not warranty a critical part like this.

I would be glad to do that for you; I have done similar repairs to parts on various firearms. I have a TIG, and have a lot of tool and die experience. Send me a PM if you are interested.
