I just picked one up off the EE and am pretty stoked. I didn't realize that any major firearms manufacturer made a short(er) barreled bolt action rifle with open sights for a reasonable price.

I've never liked longer barreled rifles as most of my hunting is done in thick(er) brush. I've also never liked rifles that don't have some sort of back sighting option should the scope become unserviceable.

I'll be mounting a 1-4 or 2-7 power scope on it which will be field removable and I'll be using it to hunt coyotes, gophers and of course zombies. :p

Watch for a full review upon its arrival.

Yeah I was real close to snatching that one up.

If it was in .308 I would be all over that! ;)

I am gonna have to pick up one of the Alaskan Brush Hunters in the future though. 18 inch barrel in .375 Ruger, or .338 Win Mag!!

Well I'm glad you passed it up mlehtovaara! Around here, we can't hunt with anything over .230 calibre unless we have a big game tag. I love to take my guns for "walks in the woods" all year round so having this chambered in .223 is perfect for me. :)

As for the non-detachable mag, it really is the only drawback so far that I can find to this rifle - and apparently, it's not terribly difficult to mod it to accept removable box mags so I'll investigate that once it arrives.

And now for the worst part - the waiting.

I'm getting my 30-06 shortened to 18.5". I'm a short guy, I find the factory 22" barrel way too long in the bush...

Now, to bug my TIG-welding friend, so I can mount a scout-type scope... :)

It arrived today. :)

It's a little heavier than I expected but well within reason. It has one heck of a thick barrel on it! (which accounts for the extra weight)

I'm just wondering now how to go about getting it to accept detachable mags. (it comes in a blind mag configuration)

Could it be so easy as swapping out the stock for an Axis stock? The Accustocks look rather interesting as well but I'm guessing that would add even more weight to the already hefty rifle.

Pics will be up soon. :)

Open sights zeroed at 100. Lots of elevation available for the longer shots.

Muzzle comes threaded for suppressors, brakes or flash-hiders.

Lots of room over the rails for using the irons. Now I just need some QD rings for my scope.

Accutrigger, oversized bolt knob and evidence of the internal mag.
