I purchased one of these Savage 110 Long Range Hunter 338 Lapua from Bowyers Outdoor Sports in maple Creek SK. I purchased some o/f 338 LP brass on CGN about a year ago. I chambered some brass into the Savage and they fit without issue. So rather than make them smaller with FL sizing I just neck sized them. I have some 250gr Sierra SBT and started with a charge 6 grains under max and worked up to 2 grains under max of RL 25. I used the Titegroup Rest so it was very solid. I just about died when I fired my first 4 strings. 100 yd groups were about 3.5- 4"/100m.
loaded some Vitavouri n560 and got 1.5" groups..OK but not great. Again their was a fair amount of case space.
Did a little reading and it seems the lapua likes near max to over max loads with powders that fill the case. I loaded the next 12 with IMR 7828 from 2gr under max to max. All groups tightened down from an inch to 3/4 inch. I am going up 2/10gr on the next loads as the max showed no pressure signs what so ever.
What powders are you fellows using in your Lapua that give you excellent results.
