Ive been trying to find some information on the Savage 111, but it seems like its not as common or popular as the 110 models.

Anyone know whats the difference between them? And for the people who own or used to own, how would you rate it?

Can one of the mods move this thread to the sporting rifles section please?

I was always under the impression that the model 11/111 were just standard hunting rifles, where the 10/110 were more the target/specialty rifles

Previously the 10/110 (etc) names use to denote short vs long action, now they are all called 110(etc) and the cartridge denotes action length.
All the same receivers more or less with the difference being in the bolt release location (top/bottom) and screw spacing, they will have different mags or internal mags depending on model.
Old models 11/16 were more the hunting types, 12 were varmint HB's, 10's their "tactical" HB line, but none of that matters much anymore since the rebranding.

I have 2 model 11's GCNS, 204 and 270 WSM. Wood stocked blued barrels. They are likely 15 years old or more and different from the more recent designated model 11's. Seems they switch them around every few years. I think some of the newer ones were called trophy hunters and sold as a package with a scope. They must be good shooting rifles because I think they are the oldest ones in the safe right now, that haven't been moved out to make room for something else. Had 1 issue with the WSM once and that was the stock screws loosened off. Not a big deal, except I was gone on a moose hunt when it happened.

thanks everyone who replied.

it seems savage is making most of their rifles with a synthetic stock nowadays. From what ive read the axis stocks are terrible. Will have to go look at the 111 and see if its flimsy

I have a 111 with a synthetic stock. I don't think it's flimsy.

The 111 stock is no where near as flimsy as the Axis, but it’s no where near an aftermarket one either.

I would say middle of the road at best.

I have a 110 long range hunter with in 6.5-284 and used to own the same caliber/rifle in a 111 long range hunter. Just the stock seems to be different be different between the 2 with the newer one having a better stock. Both the 110 and 111 had well made stocks, both had the accustock with the aluminum bedding, but the 111 had an eye sore of a cheek piece.

Both rifles shoot good, but I prefer the fit and finish of my Sako rifles. I wont be shy taking my Savage on some rough terrain though.
