hard to go wrong with that package, in some great moose/deer dropping non-magnum calibers too!!

general consensus is the scope and rings need to be replaced down the road, but for a rookie on a budget is a deal thats hard to beat.

Well............. the other package option is the remmy 710 (which is by far the most rough looking rifle seen in a long time:mad: ) and side by side, the Savage blows it out of the water.

The Savage is on sale here for $429.99

This is my hunting rifle in 7RM. A potentially very accurate rig. Just bed it, adjust or swap the trigger, open up the forend so that there is lots of room around the barrel, load up and have at it.

With handloads mine likes, I am shooting equal to many custom rifles even out to 940yds. The scope and rings are the weakest part of the package. Personally, I would get rid of them as quickly as affordable.

what is the diference between the SAVAGE 111 and the Stevens 200 or are they really the same rifle??

The 111 has a few nicer features. The two major ones are a detachable mag and a slightly nicer stock. The package comes with the Simmons scope, a sling, bases and rings. If you're in the market for something in that price range, I'd say you're better off just getting the Stevens 200 then buying a Bushell Trophy scope (or similar decent but inexpensive scope) and some decent bases and rings. You'll spend about the same in the end.

The C in the letters of the Savage model designates it as detachable clip (despite the incorrect use of the term clip, I'd rather call it a magazine). The Stevens 200 is very similar. I have the 111FCX3 in 300 Win Mag. Replaced the mounts with a one piece Farrel base because the savage bases are so far apart the rings touch the magnification ring on my Leupold scope, and the rings and scope because they were not of my liking. If you don't desire a detachable mag, I'd buy the Stevens gun and save the money to buy a better scope like a Leupold or maybe Bushnell Elite. The stocks are very flexible in the foreend I'll warn you. I'll probably replace mine with a laminate stock. These are great shooting guns and also are easy to change barrels on. Even the bolt face is removable to change calibres.

I bought one in 270 Win. a few years back, shoots excellent. I immediatly put new bases and a bushnell trophy on it. love the gun

I've got the Savage in 7mm RM. The Simmons scope it comes with is garbage. Kicks hard as it's light. Can't beat the accuracy though. If I was to do it all over again, I'd get the Stevens and spend the money I saved on a better scope.

7RM will bring down what ever you shoot , the savage with a elite 3200/4200 would be a ultimate rifle for what around $750 cant go wrong with that.

so-would you go for a 30-06-or opt for the 300 mag?

Savage 111 pkg, best there is for the money. I'd go 7MM Rem Mag or second choice 30-06. Either is a great all around game rifle. I have both calibers & love them both:D .300 Mag is a good caliber, but may recoil pretty hard in the light weight Sav 111. Stevens 200 does not have accu-trigger & that is a great system.
