I have been looking at the specs for the Savage 114 American Classic in 30-06 with the Accutrigger and Detachable Magazine. Looks like it may be a really nice rifle for the money, at 7 pounds and a 22" barrel it should serve well as an Ontario big game rifle.

I really like guns that are all metal parts and have quality fit and finish, anything on this Savage plastic?

Does anyone have a Savage 114 American Classic, any range reports or personal experience with one? Thanks

I have a model 12 in .204 and love it. I just bought my wife a model 111 in .270 and she absolutely loves her rifle. Great fit and finish on both of them and both shoot great. The 114 is a higher grade of rifle than the model 111 so I would assume that the fit and finish of that rifle is good as well. As far as being accurate, between myself and a couple buddies, we have a half dozen Savages and they all shoot great.

I have a 114 american classic lefty in 270win, the rifle is a excellent shooter, .5'' inch groups at 100yds. There is no plastic on a american classic all metal and wood.

I have a model 14 American Classic in 270wsm and it is a great rifle. The aacutrigger is fantastic and overall it shoots like a dream. I would recommend one highly. In addition it is really pretty.

I have the exact rifle you're talking about, boiught it this spring. Great looking rifle, rate of twist seems to like 180gr and not 150gr bulletes so far, but that cheap american eagle 150gr fmj and prvi partizan 180 gr that it likes.
The most significant thing is thatthe savage long actions are LONG, I ended up needing extension rings to get a comfortable, instant cheek weld onmine. I have a bushnell elite 4200 3x9 on it. The eye relief on the leupolds is much better at low magnification but when cranked up it gets at least as small. The bushnell eye relief is constant at 3.3".

Overall I love the gun but a tikka seemed to fit better and had a bit lighter trigger. The savage is mucg better than my buddy's 5 yr old winchester model 70. It came set to it's lightest and it does have a nice trigger, with the nod going to the tikkas I've tried but nothing else matching it in my experience (remingtons, winchesters).

I'll post pics and maybe more info next week...

I own a Model 14 American Classic .243, same gun in short action. I'd highly recommend these guns, 100% reliable in function, fit and finish are great for Savage and the accuracy is unreal....the most accurate rifle I've ever shot. Nice to have a clip, accutrigger is great and barrel is free floated...

Yes I did notice that the Savages long actions are really long, what is with that? Almost all the pictures I have seen on the internet have the scopes mounted with some kind of extention rings. I am going to mount a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9X40 on it and it has a 6" scope tube, hopefully that is enough tube to provide the right eye relief.

Still undecided on the Savage, looks interesting!!!

The savage 14/114 is probably the only savage I would buy. Its an attractive rifle, and supposed to be a nice package. Its not very high up on the list, but its on there. Maybe in .250 savage...

I mounted the 4200 3x9 with standard rings and they worked but I went to the extension rings to get it right without stretching forward. I used Millet rings and a burris 2 pc base, work great and I still get a nice open action for single shot at the bench if I want.

I have a 114 American Classic, bought it barely used on this site for $500. Chambered in 7mm Rem Mag, and with a Burris Fullfield II 4.5 -14 mounted on top it will do everything I need it to here in Ontario. It doesn't meet the 270 or less restriction but thats an excuse to buy another gun. For me its a Savage 12 LRPV repeater in 22-250. Both guns have large scopes on them and don't work well for tight bush hunting, so for that I have a Savage 99 in 308.

This is why the smallest gun cabinet I could buy holds 8 guns, and also why it is becoming too small for my needs.

You will be happy with the 114 my friend, if you like Savages that is

Just bought exactly what your looking at. Beautiful firearm for the money. Rifle shoots better than I ever could. Accu-trigger is nice, they moved the bolt stop off the side of the receiver for nice flowing lines. My whole package with bushnell 4200 elite 3x9x40 and box of ammo otd was $1240.
