I'm thinking hard on a 114 American classic, want a 30-06 rather than 1 308 (I know the debate but I prefer 30-06).
My only concern is the long action and scope mounting, i've read a few issues where the scope couldn't be moved to a comfrotable location that gave the proper eye relief with a natural cheek lock.
Because I have no access to a well stocked gun shop in my area, i'm hoping to hear about people's experience with scope mounting on the 114 american classic. Pictures and scope models would be great, I'll do the same after I finally make the jump...
Thanks,
Mike

On my Stevens 25-06, which I'm pretty sure is the exact same action length as the 30-06 Savages, I had to use weaver extension bases for the reason you just stated. I don't mind the look of them, and have had no trouble at all with extractions.

The other options are to get a one-piece weaver base ($80ish depending on brand), and that will give you every possible option for mounting positions. Secondly, you can get a scope with a long tube. It's getting tougher to find those, as everyone seems to be making "tactical" length scopes. Thirdly, you can use extension rings.

No worries dude. I had to go through all the bull#### of figuring out what worked, and what didn't, all by my lonesome:D. Made quite a few trips back and forth to the gun store...

The extension bases were literally the cheapest solution, as I think they cost all of $4 each. Some people hate the look, others don't. Like I said, no problems with extractions, and they are holding up great. Loct-tite the hell out of them and you are good to go.
