Im looking at getting a more weather friendly rifle. I have a few and have sold a few, (some i regret) however what i have read is that i would like to get a Savage 116 Weather warrior or trophy hunter in 30-06 or a Remington Mountain SS in 30-06. I like the odd 6, recoil and accuracy + stopping power, not to mention a box of ammo is 20-30 cheaper than my 300 Win and WSM. I like the accuracy i read about the accustock and the trigger almost everyone is enjoying right out of the box. I know Remington has a good name, i love their shotguns and know their quality is good. There trigger on the remi is also adjustable but is internal as opposed to the savage that has the extra moving parts when "taking up the slack". (what ive read)

What are your thoughts on the 2 choices of rifle.

Thanks for checking in

There are those who will fully support the Savage on here, but for me, The Remington wins, hands down.
For several years, I owned a 30-06, a 700 SSDM. It was the most Catholic rifle I have seen in ages. Shot
150's, 165's, 180's and 200's into sub moa groups, and even more surprising, shot them all to within 2" of
one another. It now belongs to a close friend, who cherishes it. D.

Cant stand the Savage stock and something about the bolt. My vote is for the rem. That being said I havent handled the rem plastic stock

I will make this unanimous, another vote for the Remington.......twice the rifle Salvage will ever be...........Some Rems have had their issues but I own dozens of them and have owned likely more than 100 in my life. I have hunted over most of the planet with 700s and shot my African lion and leopard with a 700.........I have never been let down by my 700 Rems !!!!!!

Hi Have 2 weather warriors ''223, 30-06'' both are excellent performers. Have had no problems with either one, both are more accurate then the guy at the end of the butt stock

I have and enjoy both Savage and Remington....One on One, stock to stock, the Savage Weather warrior will most likely out shoot the Remington....JMHO though!

Im not going to lie, I do like the Remington's mountain, however trying to find one to hold is a feet in itself. Although I did happen into Cabellas today and they didn't have the WW, but a 116 FCSS which unlike savage web sight, has the accutrigger and accustock. I was very happy, as i was under the impression that the WW was the only stainless with the accustock. That being said i still want to see the Mountain, cabellas had a SPS stainless remi 700 that was nice, but i have not been an admirer of that stock. However my desire to have a new rifle may take over, and i don't think ill be disappointed with the savage. It also didn't hurt to know that the rifle feels real comfortable in the shoulder. Hoping the answer and my choice comes soon.

Any long term advice as to the choices please weight in, im all up for a bit of a read of those who have had the itch and waited for the right one.

So got to another local store and saw a remi 700, i think it was the CDL or BDL, it was a stainless wood laminate stock but it was a 300WSM. Felt real nice, unlike cabellas, they took trigger lock off to feel the trigger, very nice and what i come to expect from Remi. Back on the fence. I like both, however again, have not seen a Moutain, and i just dont want to order something i haven't seen or tried. I have herd or, mind you, read, that the mountain in the lighter weight has substantial kick in comparison to the extra 1/2 lbs the other rifles have.

Has anyone ever noticed a huge difference with a mountain rifle vs the standard 700?

The weather warrior is the model 16/116

I have a weather warrior 16FHSS (floorplate model), was my 3rd center fire rifle when I started out shooting and I'm happy with it, my main deer rifle past few years, accurate and good value (not too sure how much they sell for now, mine cost 650)

both have their fair share of quality control issues if you do some reading on the forums....my 700 in 223 has been great, no issues.....my savage when shooting hot loads the ejector plunger failed, jammed inside the spring in the bolt head, savage sent parts out quickly and I believe the ejector was redesigned slightly (or maybe there is an aftermarket solution available, been a while now so can't remember exactly what they sent me), I've researched this to be a mildly common problem but only with hot loads

even though I started out a big savage fan, at the end of the day a savage will always be a savage....both have lots of aftermarket parts available, probably more for the 700 but lots for savage too, I have a PTG bolt swapped in and helps with the sloppy action and binding....I think the 700 is a more refined platform overall and I'd say it's a much easier rifle to sell down the road
