I bought a Savage 12 LPVSS i 223 & am puzzled:runaway: the rate of twist, have used the old standby tight patch on rod several times & keep coming up with 1 in 8, did savage ever use this ROT?
The rifle was bought from consignment at gunshop.
The bolt face ,cocking ramp, & bore look as it has fired very few if any rds, it's marked like a Savage factory bbl & no signs of Barrel nut been removed, it does not have DM.

Savage lists all the recent production barrels as 1 in 9. They launch the 75gr Bergers and Amax wonderfully. Only this year do they list a 1 in 7.

Would not surprise me to hear that you get a 1 in 8. The patch method does have a bit of error which can easily be 1/2" to 1". No biggie.

Odds are the factory sets up for 9 twist or faster.

You know it will be an 8 twist if you can stabilize an 80gr Amax/Berger.

Mine will not.
