Savage 16/116 fcss

I'm seriously considering getting one of these rifles for a brush gun. I have had stainless guns in the past and I love how they preform in wet or snowy conditions. Very hard to rust. Does anyone have this gun? How does it shoot. I do have a savage scout rifle and I love it! Do these two guns take the same mag? How's is the quality on the fcss?

Hunt with a friend that has the 16. Excellent rifle, always fires and will take a beating. Will shoot clover leafs no problem. Thinking about saving up for one myself.

I have a 16 in Creedmore... I dropped it into a Boyd's grey laminate stock and bedded it... she shoots! And looks very,very good.

I own more rifles then most and not as many as others and the single most accurate rifle I own is my 7mm 08 model 16. I have prettier rifles and some that cost a whole bunch more money but they don't shoot near as well as my Savage. This site is full of Savage haters and I agree they are a bit rough around the edges but mine and the few my friends own are all shooters.

It's the rifle I trusted in my daughters hands when she took her first whitetail ( at 260 yards I might add, a little proud papa gloating here)

I can't answer your question about the mags being interchangeable but it does sound like you already like a Savage product so you'll be happy with another I'm sure.

I have a 325 WSM lefty stainless, had it just over a year now.

I like it, its weighted well, comfortable for me, the 325 WSM kicks like a 300WM or 338WM but I find the fit of the rifle to be good, and I like synthetic for a "bush gun", by that I mean something you dont worry about scratching up if your climbing through thick stuff, who cares if you scratch the stock?

What I dont like, is the bolt throw, its too close to my scope, Id like to find an aftermarket solution, lots of aftermarket tactical handles out there but nothing to bring it further from the scope. Also the bolt cycles OK, but not great, its a little sticky, doesnt jam, but really I wouldnt call it smooth. It cycles like you would expect a 5 or 600 dollar rifle bolt to cycle, not like you'd expect a 1000-1400 dollar rifle to cycle. I much prefer the bolt on my A-bolt to the savage.

If I did it again I may save some coin for another browning, but then again maybe not.

I believe there is two options for mags, short action or long action and they are not specific to caliber, and some conversion kits for detachable mags. Oh yeah, mine has an internal. Id prefer removable.

One last thing, the WSM's are fat, this means one in the tube and only a couple in the mag, to me a hunting rifle should carry at least 4 or 5 rounds.

I have a 16 in 7WSM and it shoots like my model 10 predator hunter .243, stacks them up in one jagged hole. Three shots is two more than I have ever needed in almost three decades of knocking whitetails over, I've put an extra round in one or two just for insurance but one is always enough when you do not shoot unless you can make a good shot.
