I bought my first rifle yesterday. Picked up a Savage 16 Stainless in .243. I also bought a Busnell Trophy Scope, Weaver Grand Slam Rings, and Weaver bases. Weaver says to use 46 front and 61 rear. The only thing is that the bottom of the rear is flat while I would think it should have a contoured bottom like the front. Anyone else run into this? Did I misread the chart and package and pick up the wrong bases? I would appreciate any help. My cousin has virtually the same rifle and I took a peek at his and it appears that he just used to Weaver 46's on it. Thanks in advance

The old savages used the The 61 at the rear but about 4 years ago they changed the rear conour to the same as the front. You were looking at an old chart likely because the new charts have both listed.

Thanks, a quick trip to the gun shop this afternoon, picked up another 46 and got 'er mounted.
