I have a .17 93r and I'm looking into doing some upgrades.

I'd like to get a new stock, already got one picked out. Are there any aftermarket receivers?

Also the stock I want leaves Most of the barrel floating in the middle of no where, do they have a known problem for barrel sag? And need the support?

You're probably talking about the Boyds Evolution stock. They're great and there is absolutely no need to support the barrel. Free floating means just that. :)

Barrel sag will not be a problem in my opinion. The receivers of savage bolt actions are made of steel and is able to support the barrel, it's sleeved and pinned in place. The Ruger has an aluminum receiver with the barrel clamped on, not as strong. My savage Mk2 BV is free floated and it's never caused me an issue, but the barrel does sing to me after each shot.

Thanks for the info, are there any better places to buy stocks from? I see on that web site it says 8-10 week wait depending

I was thinking of this one http://www.rifle-stocks.com/silhouette.htm

I knew the barrel was free floating I just wasn't sure if the savage is prone to the barrel drop problems like some of the 1022s get?

Do not order this stock, it does not fit....

if it's for a Savage 93 HR17 rifle

I ordered one, and had to send it back

it fits in the top half of the stock, but the trigger does not protrude far enough down, and you cannot remove the mag once it's inserted

it was a complete waste of time, unfortunately

call them maybe they have resolved this issue, but if not go with a Boyd's if your after a different stock

I can add some pics if you want to see, how it does not fit correctly....

I just ordered the boyd's "tacticool" stock for my Mk2, similar shaped action, but it is advertised for the 93 action. I hope there will not bee too much trouble fitting it to a pre accutrigger Mk2 action. Couldn't resist for $79, just search under their crazy deals section.

Hmmm that's weird the list on thier web site says it fits my model, I'll contact them and see what they say, if you could show me pictures that would help greatly, I can determine if our guns are the same and see if I'll have the same problem.

I've seen lots of savage 93r17s but only one in the configuration mines in so far

Thanks alot for this pictures they helped alot. It just seems like every store I go to, or savage I see on the forums are different from mine. Even oher 93's

Mines got the accutrigger, bull barrel, walnut stock, Which has the trigger guard and clip plate that screw on and off. I'm not saying it's one of a kind I'm just saying it's hard to see what other people have done when I have hardly seen any the same

So I know you said that stock doesn't fit, could you just take some material out where the bolt goes to make it work? And it seems to me you could just remove a little material on the whole bottom of stock where the trigger and clip go to make it work? I'm not affraid to do some modding to make it work, if I'm going to buy a new stock I'd really like one I want, and so far I havnt found anything else I like as much as those

Not really, and if it was that easy, then Richard's would be able to remedy it much easier than you or I could. The problem is the stock is too high, it needs to be reduced by about a 1/4 of an inch if not more. I took it to a friend of mine who does wood working, and if that much material was removed, say from the top, there is not enough material left to hold the barrel and bolt in place, and if taken from the bottom, you would end up with a hole across the whole bottom from the mag hole to the trigger area, nothing left to screw the action to the stock, and nothing to screw the trigger guard into, and nothing left for the plate for the mag. Now if that is not enough, the whole area of where your hand holds the stock with the finger groves, would be out of spec as well.

It has to be redone by Richards.....

You can do what you want, but I will tell you it will not work. I had researched this stock and tried to find a single pic on the net of anyone successfully completed, guess what not a single one.......not even a mention of one completed

But be my guest, if you find anything let me know

by the way, I found one guy who posted a few pics, of his attempt and start of using this stock, however he never posted anything of it ever being finished, do a search I am sure you will find them, if not I can post them as well.

Yea thanks for the info, I just really like those stocks, I'd be nice of there were a way of getting one to fit :(

I was affraid that the case would be too little martial in some places and too much in other spot

Yup, I liked it as well, even waited the 4 months for it, only to have to send it back....

Boyd's was then next best thing

maybe one day, they will have it worked out.......who knows....
