Well i thought i would post some pics of a rifle i recently aquired from my Uncle. It used to be my Great Grandfather's and dates back to 1907. Its a Savage 1899 in .303 Savage. My Uncle also gave me 4 full boxes of Imperial CIL 190 grain .303 Savage round nose ammo and one full box of Winchester 190 grain round nose silver tips. There was also 30 brass in the package when i picked it up at my folks place. The gun itself has a 26" octagonal barrel and the rotary magazine with counter that made these 1899/99's famous. Its amazing to see the machining that went on in this rifle way back in 1907. Its in great shape for a 102 year old rifle. I also picked up .303 Savage dies for it last week which really has me excited. I think hunting season next fall will be pretty special if i get to tote this ol girl through the bush.

The buttstock was damaged years ago and my Uncle made a new one for it. The forearm is original however and matches the serial number. He is an accomplished wood worker and builds violins.

As much as I dislike the 99's it's really nice to have a family hierloom with some history regardless of what gun it is. The rear stock looks like oak, good work too, just another little oddity that will speak to it's history and your family's years down the road. Very cool, definately a keeper! (no bedliner, please!!:p)

QC i too have a 99C. It came from my Grandmother. I have pulled off my two best ever shots on deer with that old bird. For some reason i got caught up in horse trading and buying new guns and it has fallen to the wayside in the last 5 or so years. I have always loved the 99's. Awesome deer QC!!!

Joe, while i have indeed sold a few 99's, i now have two that will never ever be sold.

Glad to see you where able to keep a family gun like this '99 Sav. In 1971 I shot my 1 st. deer with a '99 , & then my 1 st. Moose & Bear. Since then I collect & shoot them.
They are a great rifle & where far ahead of their time . Did you know that during the
1 st .WW , that the Montreal Home Guard where armed with a Military version of the
'99 Sav. including a bayonet ? AKA,,,,,,,,,Indian Frank

I used to own 3 or 4 of the MHG's, all sporterised though, alot of them got butchered after the war and made into hunting rifles. Come across a few that were still original in Canada. Blair owns a couple of them still original. I'm more into the older first run Savage rifles though.
