I put a Boyd's Pro Varmint laminate stock on my Savage 212 12ga slug gun, mounted a Bushnel Elite 6500 2.5-16x44 scope strapped on by vortex tactical rings, looking to do some other upgrades like a aftermarket magazine and a trigger job, don't know if either exist.. Any input?

Most would say it's over kill for a slug gun scope, but hopefully the results speak for it.. I haven't had a chance to get to the range yet but I'm hoping this upcoming weekend, I'll post what I get for groups at 100-350 yards

Hi, The Savage 212 already has the adjustable AccuTrigger system.

A 20ga, 260gr slug travelling around 1900fps (manufacturer suggested velocity, actually lower) - it'd be interesting to see how that does at 350 yards. Won't be fair to the game i.e. if you are planning on shooting at such distance with a slug gun.

EDIT: I notice this is actually a 12ga, therefore a heavier 385gr slug.

Post some range report when you are able to do so.

I have heard good things about these slug guns.but would love to see some real world targets at 200 yards and maybe farther. Just for the heck of it. Dutch

For premium saboted slugs I have liked the Remington Accutips, in 12ga. with a 385gn copper jacketed hunk o' lead and ballistic tip. 2-3/4" shows muzzle velocity at 1.800fps, the magnum 3"ers are at 1.900 I recall.

Anyway, zeroed at 150 yards is a good point-blank for long range slug hunting with these beauties, being under 4" high at the peak of the arc between 75 and 100, and dropping to 4" low at 175 (still hitting at 1.100 ft-lbs there, too).

But no matter the quality of the slug and barrel and scope and shooter, this is extreme long range for slugs: extending just 25 yards further to 200 makes the drop 10", then 17", then 27" at 250. If you hope to hit something at 350 yards you will be looking at something like a 10 foot hold-over! Just not possible to even test for groups at that point…

I'm real interested in the 350 yard grouping

I'm sure this was tongue-in-cheek, but…

Groups aren't what most people want out of a set-up like this; it's zero scope, verify it'll hit the vital zone, and off into the woods.

I put three into under 1,5" easily at 100 yards, then two fairly close and well in the centre of the imaginary broadside of a moose at 175. That's one box gone (another to zero it), and at five bucks a pull don't think I'll be trying for 200-yard clover-leafs!

It us all on fun. But I bet a guy could get some really good groups once you figure out the hold over. The guns will shot that's for sure . Dutch
