I have a nice old Savage 220 single shot in 28 gauge. A lovely little gun and my new go to grouse shooter. However, I am having issues with it. It seems as though the firing pin does not retract after firing a round. It stays out and you have to open and close it a few times with an empty chamber to have the extractor push it back in. This really pissed me off today when I was getting ready to start a grouse walk today on a trail and as I was gearing up, a grouse walked across the trail 10 feet infront of me. I grabbed a round, chambered it but I couldn't close the gun as the firing pin was still sticking out from the shot I fired a few hours earlier. The pin made a mess of the rim of the shell and the damn grouse got away as I was trying to get the pin to retract. Any ideas what may be wrong with it? Something to do with the safety maybe?
