Well I just purchased a 220 slug gun and just wondering what ammo everyone has the best accuracy with.I know every gun shoots different but at the cost and difficulty finding ammo,I'm just looking for a starting point. Thanks

Hornady SST’s have also shot well for me in both my Savage 220’s, one being the plain Jane synthetic and the other the laminated thumb hole version. My Savages seemed to shoot better with the 2-3/4” Remington Accutips than the 3 inchers.
AND I was surprised that when you switched to another Lot# the point of impact could change up to 8 inches at 75yards!! Almost like lot testing .22LR ammo for best performance. I’m assuming you’re deer hunting, spend a few extra dollars and lay in a supply of slugs and test them out, confirm zero and POI at various distances with actually shooting, not just relying on a ballistics chart printed on the side of an ammo box. Deer deserve more respect than that.

I plan on trying several types but 20 ga sabot are tough to come by,looking for accutips but not much selection in the Ottawa area.As for hunting deer I'm a firm believer in knowing your gun and it's accuracy, far to many hunters can't hit a 6in plate at 100 yards, luckly at my farm I'm able to shoot out to 400yrds

my buddy has one and swears by Remington AccuTips. His gun does not like the Hornady SSTs. He sights his in at 100 yards from a bench.

Remington accutips. Hornady SST did not shoot well in my 220. Found the barrel fouled up quickly with the SSTs.

Remington accutip shoots the best, tried the SST's and did not bad but not as good as the accutip, SST's are easier to come by though. Bought a couple boxes of the Federal coppers, heard good things but have not shot them yet.

As stated, the Remington accu tip are known to shoot well in these guns. I found that the Remington Barnes expander shot nearly as well in my 220, so that’s what I settled on. I like a solid copper for a shotgun slug. However, now Remington has discontinued the expander!!!
Federal has a new copper load out this year called the “Freight Train copper” . Has anybody tried this one yet in a savage? Testing and sighting is so expensive in these ridiculous sabots! Especially frustrating for someone who normally reloads for rifle cartridges!
