I bought a wooden stock for my Savage MKII to replace the synthetic one. Everything fits fine but the hex bolts for the bottom plates are too short. Does anyone know if a mod can be done or if there are longer bolts.
Thanks

Go to website rimfirecentral and read some of the posts in the Savage section. Someone there will have the Savage longer bolt part numbers listed. Also a lot of Savage guys buy thicker "bottom metal" for around the magazine and metal trigger guards to finish off their Mark 2's. I've got a Mark 2 FV-SR I want to swap out the stock on.

What wooden stock did you buy? The Savage OEM "G-Series" wood stock should work with the same short bolts, any laminate stocks require the long bolts. Call Savage directly and they will ship you a couple of the longer bolts... 1-800-370-0708. As said above, the thicker bottom metal does add some rigidity to the action/stock junction.

Thanks for the responses. I bought a laminate stock so it needs the longer bolts. I have a guy working on the rifle now to see if he can find some longer bolts in his shop - will see what happens there. If not I'll contact Savage or go to the Savage section on rimfirecentral. Thanks.

They are a very uncommon size bolt and just about only available through Savage.
I bet if you give them a call they will know exactly what you're talking about and can send you what you need.
Do you have the trigger guard and floorplate?

Where you are matters.
"...if there are longer bolts..." Take one to a fastener shop.

Good luck with that! I searched all over, including fastener specialty places, and there are none to be found, not even in their catalogs.

They're modern socket head bolts, manufactured with an old obsolete British automotive thread. I strongly suspect Savage has them custom made for their application. I did manage to make some on my lathe, but I wasn't happy with them. I ended up ordering direct from Savage - cheap, and well made. I did make my own bottom metal though - I used cold-rolled 1/8" plate steel. Ain't never gonna warp that plate!
