HA ! Who thought this was for a '99' ?
Hi, A few years ago I created a doc describing how to reduce the tension on the Savage rotary rimfire mags. I don't think I've posted it here and I was recently reminded about it on another forum. Anyway, Here is a jpg of the doc. It only take a few minutes to do the mod, and the mag still feeds fine even in the semi-A's . and here is a thread on RFC about it - http s://www.rimfirecentral.com/threads/b22-rotary-mag.1272417/
Hope this can help someone -
EDIT - I changed the title to clarify 22LR

Thanks Buck, good resource.

How are the Savage rotary magazines holding up over time and higher round counts? Can you compare them to 10/22 magazines in terms of durability?

I've only shot ONE mag full in a 10/22, a buddy and I traded guns for a mag-s worth ;Op Firing was OK but my B22 had a better scope and so shot better.
As for durability, I've got 6-7 mags for the Savs. I had an A22 that I ended up dumping cause I hated the Heavy trigger and the 'CLUNK' of the re-set every shot. I prob only shot that one 2-300 times and used 2-3 diff mags to get there, so not a long-term test. But I've had the B22 FV for ca 3 years and maybe 2000 rounds between 3-4 mags. Absolutely NO issues, especially after this mod and one other thing. I 'rounded' the loading gate cause I was getting a callous from re-loading - HA ! Just a few minutes with a file then 1000g to polish 'em. This is b4 and aftr, this one needs more 'polishing'.

I have both a Savage A22 and a Ruger 10/22. Both rifles have at least a couple thousand rounds threw there 4 mags each. Both have functioned and performed flawlessly. I can load both just as quickly and trouble free. All my mags are as from factory and all work well. My 1 of my savage mags are the first gens with the weaker locking clip but even it’s be flawless. 2 of my Ruger mags have had the assembly bolt come loose but that’s no real issue just tighten it down again.

I honestly like both style mags for different reasons. The savage mags there’s no mistaking front or rear of mag. Making things a lot easier to swap without looking. That being said I do prefer the mag release of the Ruger after I swapped in an extended mag release.

All said I wouldn’t hesitate to own another rifle that used either mag system.

Thanks guys - Those Savage rotary mags don't inspire confidence just looking at them, so it's good to know they work regardless.

Alpining - The half-metal, half-plastic had me concerned but the construction of both parts is quite thick and solid. I've dropped mine a few times and the range position is on bare concrete - still works fine.
