savage 22lr scope recomendation?

Which Savage 22? I have a 64 which is fine with the irons for tin cans at 20-50yds. And with a 4x El Paso Weaver it's good for 1" @ 50yds. A 3-9x40 'Rimfire scope' for ca $100 would tighten that a bit but not much. An Amazon 4x is ca $50. I have another 64 with a $50 Amazon red dot that's about as good as the irons, but quicker. Then I have a B22FV with a 6-24x50 FFP-SF that's good for under 1/2" at 50 - ca $500.
What do you consider plinking ?

It all comes down to how many $$$ you are willing to part with. With optics you get what you pay for, there are no short-cuts. It all depends on what you feel is acceptable? My minimum is a Leupold Freedom Rimfire 3-9x40 tri MOA reticle.Tried cheaper stuff in the past and was never satisfied.

Agree with this. I bought a Savage 64 with a weaver scope included, the scope doesn't hold zero with has been a big pita. I ordered a Leupold VX Freedom rimfire, will have it in a few days. IMO save yourself some headaches and buy a decent quality scope.

^^^ For Sure!! A cheap scope that fails, plus a lousy mounting system that is half-assed installed - is a recipe for deciding your rifle is no good - yet it was never given a chance. Rifle still might be no good, but a poorly done sighting system caused me way more grief than was needed to be experienced!!! However, a world-class optic system (including the mounts) will not make the rifle shoot better ... it just helps you to see and aim better.

Whatever you choose, the right base, or mount, is key to satisfaction.

One-piece or two-piece, Weaver or Picatinny, steel, aluminum, or titanium, the choice is yours.

Right now, Cabelas has MDT rails on sale. <https://www.cabelas.ca/product/146341/mdt-20-moa-picatinny-scope-bases>

Thanks all. Lots of great information. I’ll be saving my nickels for a bit but I agree quality is dominant to me.

I`ve tried a lot of different scopes on .22s over the years and this Leupold is great for the $$$. The Tri MOA reticle works slick as hell and if you try it I am confident that you will be impressed with it. Lifetime warranty and excellent resale value, you can`t lose.

I got 22s with 4x 6x 4.5-14 and a red dot.

Fixed 4x is a great multi purpose option for plinking and hunting
Red dot is a ton of fun for gravel pit playing
6x well it’s a in-between because I had I laying around
Vx3 4.5-14 fine duplex is the cats ass for gopher popping.

I am really starting to favor the fixed power scopes.
Have a 3x and 2.5x on big game rifles.

I like simple

I have a 5-25 Strike Eagle on my Mark 2 with a 40MOA rail, could have gone 50MOA but they weren't available when I was purchasing. The scope has loads of internal trave 31MIL, I can dial all the way out past 400m.

Nothing wrong with going vortex or leupold. Both have fantastic warranties. I prefer leupold though due to them being american made and not Chinese made like vortex. The leupold rimfire line is fantastic and their alumina flip up caps are the best on the market imo.

This question is hard to answer without knowing what gun, what kind of range you want to plink at (usually that's pretty short, say 50m for a 22lr, but not always) and most importantly budget. If we don't know how much you're willing to spend it's hard to recommend anything.

My two savages wear a 3-9x32 cheapo rimfire scope, and a 4-16x ffp Cabelas covenant. I'd love to put a leupold on one of em but I'm too poor to put a $500 piece of glass on a plinker.
