I'm just in the process of buying one of these. Just waiting for it to arrive. 24" barrel with clip. Looks pretty cool. what can you tell me other than "good luck finding ammo":).
Does anyone reload for it?

I've got one, the ammo ain't that hard to find. My local shop carries it, it's not an obsolete cartridge.....yet. Expensive though at over $40 a box.

You can reload for it, I've got load data around here somewhere from a buddy that shoots cast out of his, just gotta find it.

Does yours have a schnable tipped forearm or is it just regular? There were two different variations of the 23B and C. The older of the models had the schnable tips.

Winchester makes this caliber. They produce a quantity of it every so often. Depending on area demand, some shops have some stock. I have bought from SIR and Wholesale but out of stock is the usual words.
I personally have started reloading this amongst 6 other calibers and cast bullets can be had, jacketed are hard to find. But easy and fun to load. It certainly is cheaper to reload than buy factory when I have 3 levers in this caliber and shoot them all often.

coulda,shoulda

I passed one up a while ago, had peeps sights on it and was 90% +
a couple weeks ago I was in a real small gun shop and they had a bag of brass hanging on the wall and it got me thinking about it again. If you have problems finding brass let me know and I can make a trip back to that shop and see if it is still hanging there.

Speer makes a nice 75 gr jacketed bullet for this round if you start to handload

Here is one of the best examples of saving money by reloading:
85gr. fp cast (Chambers) 10 cents
7 grs. powder 2.5 cents
sr primer .04 cents
Total for a box of 50...... $8.25...Cost of box of Factory ammo...$40+

pic

It comes with peep sites.

unfortunately i may not keep it if ammo is that expensive and components are hard to find. I just thought it was a cool looking rifle.

I know where you bought it :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:
I hope you enjoy it almost as much as I would have if I jumpped on it all those months ago. Somewhere on my computer is a bunch of pictures of close ups of it.

Brass can be found at Wholesale sports $30/100 or on CGN. and cast bullets for $25/ 200. powder is cheap, primers are cheap but in the long run very cheap ammo. Less than 0.50 a cart. as compared to over $1.00 factory. My winnies love them. and reloading is fun.

Ya, now that I see the pic I know where you got it to.

The sale price is alright but if you had paid what he was asking in the first place I would have said you were nuts. It isn't worth what he was asking.

Still haven't found that cast load yet.

remington brass

saw a bad of remington brass today, $27.50 and in stock, just try wholesales hehehe I bet its out of stock without even calling:slap:

243 is too small a diameter...it is .257 dia. Remember to use "pointies" in mauser or box mags...not tube type like my winnies.

I just got my supply of cast bullets 25-20 for 12,50/100...38-55 for 20.50/100 + shipping. cheaper to buy quantity as price /piece drops.

It may be slow but the barrel will last forever.

I was given one a few years back after a buddy found his Dad's 23B in the closet after his mother passed away. It's a fun little gun. Mine is a tack driver out to about 75 yards.
