...I have a Savage 24 in .222 over 20 guage. I need to know if the spent cases and or hulls are supposed to eject from the firearm when the action is opened or are they just extracted and pulled out by hand ?

Reason I ask is that on occasion a spent .222 case will eject...but sometimes not, a spent .20 guage hull will never eject, just clear the chamber so I can easily grab it. It was my grandfathers years ago and for some reason I recall the spent hull ejecting into the air after he opened it. I pinky tested and visually inspected the chambers and there are no visible pits or rust spots.
So...how do your fellas 24's function?

Thx.,
Mad Mikey:)

Mine used to function exactly like yours...Sometimes the shell would eject (and often 'pop up' a bit) but the shotgun shell never would. There is a mechanism in there that basically pushes them out and I think that it just gets old and worn (and worn faster on the 20ga) and hence no shell pop anymore. That's my experience at least with them, but like you said it's an old gun (my was old when I bought it 20 years ago :)

My 24 simply raises the rifle and shotgun case to a point where they're easy to grab. I've never had it eject either case and I've had it for a long time and put 1000s of rounds through it.
