I was wondering if there was anyway to lighten up the trigger on a Savage Model 24? I am not looking for a match trigger, but anything lighter than 12 lbs (or so it feels:eek:) has to be better.

Thanks for any info.

A friend of mine sent his Savage 24 to Dave Jennings in Kamloops (Pritchard). Dave took the trigger from a very rough 9-10 pounds to a crisp 4 pounds. I shot the rifle both before and after Dave tuned it up and the difference was like night and day.

You can try taking the trigger apart and polishing the sear and hammer mating parts. Changing the springs would be an idea, but you'd have to find springs for it. Wolf Springs doesn't have 'em.

Be really careful with any polishing. These rifles have been made in different models for a long time. Some triggers and hammers are surface hardened, or sintered, and removal of any amount of metal could ruin the piece.

Why not start simple and really clean the parts, then apply one of the wunder lubs that are sold through places like DILLON PRECISION PRODUCTS or their Canadian agents. Then if that doesn't improve things , take the next step to the gunsmith.

Most common suggestion when I was dealing with the same issue was cutting a couple of coils off the hammer spring and a dab of moly grease on hammer / sear. Putting the springs back in can be a real ##### - made up a tool that was in one of the Brownells Gun Kinks books and it works slick for getting it back into place.
