A guy I know is selling his Savage 24c Series P 22/20 and I'm thinking about buying it but I have no idea what it is worth. I have not seen it yet but he says it's in good shape. I'm hoping for some help in determining a fair value for this little over/under. Any ideas?

TIA ........K

The light little campers are the most prized among model 24s and they don't make them anymore. So it's a seller's market. In the end it comes down to what you're willing to pay. I'd pay $450-$500 for one that's in very good to excellent condition. I've seen one in excellent condition offered lately on CGN at $600. It circulated back to the top a few times. Haven't seen whether it sold or at what price. Whatever you do, don't buy a new model 24. They're large, lifeless and heavy.

Bought one for $100, sold it for $400. I'd say somewhere in between. It did sell pretty fast, so maybe a little more.

Tough to say, guys love 'em. I know of a nice 223/12 gauge with a scope right now for $500.

Offer 250, see if he flinches!

OK I bought it! Although the finish is quite plain it is all in really good shape - it just needs a good cleaning. It came with a leather pouch that holds the weapon in 2 pieces (1 side for the stock & the other side for the barrel(s)) and then folds together into a neat little package. It also has a compartment in the stock to hold ammo. I'll post some pics as soon as I take some.

Neat little set up - I would have preferred a .410 instead of the 20ga but I've been looking for a long time and nothing has come up. Maybe I'll put it up for a trade for a .410 model on the EE and see what happens. hmm ... what section of the EE would you post an over/under? :)

Thanks for the help guys!

Never saw the big demand for the 24C's.

The camper models were a 20 ga with a cylinder choke, you gotta pretty much be holding the bird down when you blast it or your gonna be spitting lead all the way through supper.

You've got the straight grip short barrel model with carrying case. In that condition it's a collector's item. Don't do anything to alter it. I've got the pistol grip model, installed sling swivel studs, and carry it with a shell holder on the butt stock that I opened a couple of stitches on so it would fit over the butt stock stud. The 24 camper model is as versatile and light a carry as you are going to get, and yours is lighter than mine. With 22LR and #6 shot in the barrels, and a couple of 20 gauge slugs in your pocket you are ready for anything from rabbits on up to if necessary bear.

Great to know carl - thank you for the information! The more I think of it the more I think the 20 ga makes it more versatile than a .410 - but i do kinda have a sweet spot for the .410.

I have the same one that I added a red dot sight and slings to it - it is the #2 firearm I would never sell - I have killed hundreds of grouse with it (including with the shotgun Mad Dog) since I bought it in the mid 1980's. Light, compact, easy to carry, the perfect grouse gun and I have killed the odd duck and goose with it as well when the opportunity arose.

My guess that one is a early - mid 80's production model.

With slugs - the two bbls on mine are no where near regulated so I use it strictly for birds.

Enjoy your new purchase.

Is duck and goose legal with the 22 barrel on top of it?

You bringing it for turkey this spring as well?;)

Yotes are gettin bad down here this winter.

Didnt have any 22 ammo and my Winchester pump was at home with a sheared extractor - so it was a single shot. Got a 14 lb goose over decoys and windrowed barley with it when I lived in Hearst.

That being said - the versatility of a 20 gauge on this platform is far better than a 410 in my opinion...

PM me about the yotes
