So I bought a model 25 walking varminter on the EE and the buyer failed to mention that it extracts but doesn't eject. Turns out this is to be expected with this gun. The chatter online seems to be that savage can't fix it .
Anyone have the model 25 in 17 or 22 hornet, and does it eject or just drop the brass on top of the rounds in the magazine?

Had that issue with my Savage Axis at around 2,000 rounds replaced it with one from the USA 2,500 rounds later and it still ejects them with no problem. Before you send it back see if you can find a new (improved bolt head) at Kennys Shooting Supplies they been shipping Worldwide since 2007.

Savage extraction can be problematic. The fix is generally a new spring, ball, and extractor, or at least it was on two of the Savage 10/110's I've owned in the past.

Savage should send you a new extractor, and iirc a new ejector too. It's easy to replace on the 10/110, I expect the design would be similar, so should be straightforward, someone will have a video.

I also had a similar problem with an 783, some brass would slip the extractor, some would extract/eject fine. If you haven't already try a different brand, might become more reliable, but it's not much of a fix.

First step is find a video, take it apart, make sure there's no grit, or damage, careful, finding the parts can be a chore if they fly apart on re-assembly.

I already took it apart and found that it had been assembled wrong. The previous owner tried to fix it before he sold it on the EE.
I messaged Savage that the extractor wasn't holding, but they sent me a plunger/ejector instead.

I have a friend's 17 Hornet right now that has issues with extraction/ ejection.
I am going to pick up another box of ammo to try in it.
I have adjusted the ejector as it seemed to be kicking the cartridge out past thd extractor, and have got it extracting now reliably.
I am hoping it was a lousy bunch of QA'd ammo .
