Hi everyone. I just recently bought a gun that i would like to have more info on it.
Tha gun is a Savage model 99E the serial# is C124### and also there is a number engraved by hand just beside the lever. I would like to have more info on the year and the possible value of the gun

Thanks

It was made in March 1976.

The 99E stands for "ecomony". It was the lower grade of 99's with no added options like walnut stocks and the safety stayed on the lever unlike the rest of the 99's that went to the tang safety after 1960. It also never had the cartridge counter on the side of the receiver like the rest.

Value of the gun depends on condition, if it's in fairly nice condition still it's a $400-$450 gun.

Thank you sir. The gun is in average condition but i got it for 250$ with a tasco scope on it. I guess i did alright. I'm trying to figure out how to put a Picture of it but can't figure it out. I would like to see what they actually look like because all i see on the net is in .308 but mine is a 300

It would appear you're wrong lol. That list represents lever boss codes, not serial numbers. When mad dog tells you something about a savage 99, I dare say you can take it to the bank.

My bad! What date do you come up with? Curious now. That website isn't liking any version of the S/N supplied I plug into it.

That website doesn't have the more modern serial numbers with the letter prefixes, so their information only covers the older models. Like Nomad said, if Mad Dog said it about a 99, you can take it to the bank. The 99E isn't a bad rifle, but it does lack some of the nicer features of the older and more expensive models. I haven't seen many in .300, but they should be pretty much indistinguishable from the.308 ones. I have nine 99 rifles ranging fro 1903 manufacture all the way up to an early 1972 model. They seem to breed in my gun safe...

I own a 99f in .308 (1964)and a 99E in .300 sav (1971) with 20" barrel. I replaced the birch stocks on the 99E with a walnut take off from a 99c series A. It will put 5 of my handloads inside an inch at 100 yds . You don't see that everyday with a lever action lol. It is my favourite deer rifle.......And this from a bolt action guy lol.
