A while back I was asking about handloads for my Savage 99 in 300 Savage. I loaded four different loads, each suppossing to be the same fps average and here are my results from the range. So, bright sunny day, no wind, 300 foot elevation, 50 yard sight in distance , all the brass was the same make, and all the powder was measured to the tenth of a grain, as I always do, the bullets were M80 150 grain fmj pull downs to be used as a cheap sample. First round was 40.0 grains of IMR4064, with an average of 2503 fps, and shooting dead on with a good grouping. Second was 40.0 grains of IMR4895, with an average of 2632 fps, super tight group and right on target. Third was 40.0 grains of Varget, with an average of 2624 fps, but the grouping was scattered and to the left by 2 inches. And the forth and final load of the day was 42.0 grains of RL15, with an average of 2680 fps, very tight group , but shooting left about 2 inches. While th RL15 was the quickest of these loads the IMR4895 was the most accurate for my gun. Hopes this helps someone else who might be looking for load data. All these loads showed no sign of over pressure.

The 300 Savage and RL 15 seems to be well matched.
I have a bolt action 300 Savage, and my very best loads [velocity & accuracy] are with RL15.
The 300 Savage seems to be much like the 308 when it comes to powders that work well.
And rightly, it should be, since, other than the neck length, the two cases are very close.
Regards, Eagleye.
