Just got a Savage 311 SxS 12g 2 3/4. 1954

Just wondering if theres anything I should know before I take it out shooting.

Can I shoot rifled slugs?
Is there certain loads I should avoid?
Is it ok for steel shot?
Anything that needs fixing or that break easily?

Thanks

You should know what the chokes are.
One barrel may be choked full........ you probably should not shoot steel through any full choke barrel from that period.
If unsure, have your gunsmith measure bore and constriction in each barrel.
Beware suggestions of using any sort of "dime"test......nothing like doing actual measurements when it comes to safety.

where can i find the choke measurement. I have a caliper and its probably not too hard to measure at home?!

What choke are acceptable for slugs?

any choke is fine for slugs, some chokes are more accurate than others,I wouldn't shoot any steel through the barrels, but if you want to, even if the chokes were opened up,it should be small size steel shot and not to often.....
