During my last trip to the range, a fellow shooter showed up with a Savage in 338 Win Mag and it seemed like a very nice rifle.
The chap was working up loads for it and was having very good results in spite of strong wind and driving rain.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it was a 116 FHSS ?
It seemed quite comfortable to shoot which brings me to ask....Do any of you fellows have any experience with that model, especially in 338 Mag ?
From what I saw it might be a nice hunting rifle.....opinions ??

I don't have one in .338, but my 16 FCSS 7mm mag is usually my go-to gun for most things. I love it! If you can find one of the newest models with the accustock, then it would be the best out there IMO. My only complaint with mine was the flimsy plastic stock, but Savage listens to its customers and fixed the problem.

338wm

The 338 Win Mag in that rifle will kick a little but for a hunting rifle you won't really notice it much since your not doing long range sessions. I have a Tikka T3 Lite SS in 338WM. Not the same rifle but it's similar in weight (6-1/2lbs)and kicks me enough that I had an aftermarket recoil pad installed.

That's what my dad uses for his "big stuff" rifle. He carried it up north this year in any kind of weather you can imagine from t shirt days to two inches of ice on the knife of the tent kinda days, worked great, no issues at all with it according to him and seems to shoot straight. I think he paid about $800 with a case, and some ammo. I don't know if his is an accu stock model but it does have the accu trigger which he really likes.

Savage makes good quality rifles with average fit and finish, excellent functioning and usually very good accuracy. They make great working rifles to carry and use with no concern for a few scratches. I have a buddy with the same rifle in 300WSM and he loves it.

The 116 in 338WM is going to be my next hunting rifle purchase for a moose/elk gun. I will be adding a Limbsaver pad to replace the hockey puck that Savage uses and then just shoot it a lot.

I'd buy one in 338 as an all-weather hunting rifle. It's the only thing that is calling to me right now...a stainless/synthetic 300 WM or 338 WM. Just to decide and pull the trigger, so to speak.

i have a savage in 7wsm and it a baby to shoot.
i also have a 338 in a tikka t3 and it was a bit rough to shoot then i put a limbsaver on it and now it really sweet to shoot.my wife even has shot it quite a few times.
i would buy a 338wm in a savage really quick if i got a deal on one or in 300wsm too.

Thanks for the opinions fellas, keep 'em coming.
Taking into consideration the advertised price of that model and judging the quality and how well the gun shot that I saw, it seems like a reasonably good buy....ok so its not a pre-64 or a Mk.V, but the Moose it puts in the freezer won't know the difference, will it ?

10-4 on that Kevan. Nothing wrong with a savage

338

There was a post in the exchange of someone selling a Savage stainless for a great deal. I just bought a rifle and the boss said"no more" otherwise I would have bought it for sure.
