Hi guys,

Someone on another forum mentioned that Marlin mags in 22LR were compatible with Savage 64. Is this true, or is that guy full of :bsFlag:? This would be great news because I have heard that the savage is an excellent rifle, but it has a very bad magazine that is cheap and wears out quickly. I've even read that they can fire out of battery due to a worn out mag. They kind of look similar, too.

I don't think they are compatible. The keyhole shape on the Savage is a pretty unique form.

As stated above, Mags are abundant and, low priced for the 64. (Basically the same rifle in production for 50+ years)

Although the Savage mags are made of a pot-metal and, do wear out, I've not experienced an "out of battery" because of it. I have cursed the darn things for not feeding through worn lips though.

Firing "out of battery" is more likely from shimming the trigger group or, worn sear/release.
