I've got a fresh, new out of the box Savage 64 FXP.

Would you do anything to it before firing or just bring it out and have at'er?

It's just a cheap little rifle to have some fun with. Gonna be shooting cci mini mag 36 grain through it when it goes out. Eventually

Thanks for any constructive advice

I would say that at least, you need to run a few patches through the bore. Lots of crud can be left in the bore during manufacturing. If it was my gun, I'd probably disassemble/clean/lube/reassemble but at the very least..the bore.

Ya I did that when I first it in the mail the night of. Yet I haven't disassembled it entirely.

I'll get on it. Thanks for the input

Happy to help. I'd "LIKE" to say I tear everything down totally before shooting it...but the truth is, I'm most fussy about semis (bore/action) and with bolt guns, bore/bolt. I've seen lots of goo in factory bolts and we all know .22LR can be dirty, waxy stuff. :) Doesn't usually help the situation.

After shooting, minimum is a bore/chamber cleaning, bolt face/extractors (22s), external wipe down~no matter what gun/caliber.
