Here is some info for an alternative 22lr repeater if you are in the market for one. This is the Savage 64 trr-sr 22lr semi auto version. Price was 279.99 at wholesale sports and comes with a 16 inch heavy fluted barrel, boyds tacticool wood stock and threaded barrel 1/2 28 barrel. It comes with the weaver/picatinny rail and one 10 rd magazine. The twist rate is 1 and 16 and has the button pulled rifle technique. Now the skinny.

Good-free floating barrel, nice stock and very compact with a big rifle feel. It cycles all the good ammo. It's favourite brand is the cci blazer, federal 38 grain hollow point, federal game shok, cci mini mag, ae 40 grain solid and usually anything above 1200 fps.I put it up against the 10/22 carbine, a 10/22 sporter deluxe, a sr-22 and a remington 597 tvp and the only one it didn't beat was the 597 tvp. Group range was at 50 yards and on average the 64 trr-sr was 3/4 of an inch with a 5x power scope. I think the reason the 597 tvp did better was because there was a 16x power scope on. the 10/22 carbine was the worst and was printing 1 to 2 inch groups and it had a higher magnification then my 5 x scope. In all fairness though, i raced through the carbine's turn. The sporter deluxe with the bull barrel and the sr-22 shot the same as the 64 trr-sr.Anywhere from 3/4 of an inch off either a bipod or bench bag.For the test of all the rifles i used the cci blazer.

Bad-as with most semi 22lrs there are brands of ammo that suck. This 64 trr-sr does not like the federal target semi auto match stuff. Specifically made for these rifles. Bad news is i bought 3250 rds of it thinking it was the AE 40 grain solid. Don't ask me how i noobed out but i did. I tried this stuff through the 10/22 deluxe sporter and carbine model and it did the same thing.FTF one every ten rounds. The remington 597 tvp had no problems cycling this stuff. The only bulk ammo i would suggest is the federal 38 grain that comes in 525 pack. That was good for bulk. This gun did not cycle the cci standard velocity. I think the fps is around 1040 and i think the spring might be too big for that ammo. The 2nd thing that kinda sucks is the after market parts for it. No trigger groups and only 10 rd mags. On that note, it's factory trigger is much much better then the 10/22 standard trigger. Much lighter and less take up. This model with the scope and harris bipod has some weight to it but i like em heavy. The 10/22 carbine, 597 tvp and the sr-22 where a bit lighter minus my bipod. The scope on my 64 is rather heavy though.

I purchased this rifle with the intent not to make it a mall ninja style 10/22. I wanted a better trigger then a stock 10/22 and i wanted it to have a rail that i could swap scopes. I settled with this model and am happy with it for the price. Of course you can get a 10/22 receiver and do it up which is a plan for me but for the features you get and the price point, i would say in my opinion it is a better buy then a standard 10/22 around the $259-$279 price point. The other real thing i considered was the 10/22 tactical with hogue stock for 469.99 at wholesale. The 10/22 tactical model comes with the hammer forged barrel and target trigger group. I dryfired both of them and felt the 64 trigger was not as good as the target trigger but it wasn't a landslide for the 10/22. It was a subtle difference between the two rifles that almost 200 bucks more couldn't justify.I am used to heavy triggers and by heavy this one feels like 4-5 pounds. Some say hammer forgerd barrels are better then the button pulled and i am not here to debate that but both barrel techniques have their pro's and cons and for a 22lr barrel, the button pulled and hand lapping techniques will suffice for my purposes.Savage has a good reputation and i am sure this barrel will be fine.I am not entering any match competitions with this rifle. It is just a fun training tool. Groups do not concern me at 50 yards when i am more into hits and fast acquisition drills on clays at 25, 50 and 100 meters.

This rifle is equipped with millet 30mm rings quick detach and has the falcon menace 1.5-5x30 IR reticle with mil/mil. I can holdover for 200 meters with a 25 yard zero to hit the orange clays with this reticle. I use this gun to practice opposite arm shooting and fast acquiring drills.I think this rifle has the looks and shoots pretty good and is another option for a semi auto repeater. Canadian made so you can't go wrong for the price.

Great write up !!
Great looking rig!! Nice to know there are other option available. I like that you compared it to other models that would be looked at in the same classification.
