From what I can remember, this thing shot pretty well when I got it(was my first firearm purchased). Now its a different story. Basically sat in the safe for 2 years. took it out, disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and went plinking with a buddy. Right form the start, Almost every magazine fired there was a misfire or jammed up round. I have heard people talk about a magazine feeding issue is this what is causing this jamming and bullet deformation?

Also why the ten odd misfires? Seems like the firing pin barely touches the rim.

Any suggestions? I would prefer to fix myself.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I've had a 64B for longer than I can remember and the odd time it starts to act up I hose it down with Brake Klean then blow it out with air and keep going. I have never taken it apart to clean it and I don't lube it at all.
I run the original factory mags and whatever ammo I happen to have.
It's a Swiss Watch made in Canada

x2 on brake klean being an essential!

I have extended cleaning times when it gets finicky while I'm out shooting by hosing it out with brake klean, and cycling it by hand. I do take mine down every 500-1000rds and thoroughly scrub it.

These are fussy eaters. I adore my 64's, and have owned mine 25+years, and it was very well used when I got it! I didn't always love it though...first couple of years I hated it. Wouldn't get through a magazine w/o jamming. Then an 'ol timer told me to run it dry (no lube in the action), and round nosed bullets. I have no luck with Winchester ammo but other respected CGN 64 lovers have great luck with 'em. So try a few different brands. I like CCI Blasers n' Federal Champions for cheap shootin' fun.

Looks like a mag feeding ramp issue, its off center causing it to jam into the side, file it more center or get a new mag, then it should be fixed

order a couple new mags from Savage Arms...they ship direct to you. Google for the parts dep't. phone number. This mag ramp was machined crooked. don't bother playing with that one.

@camster
Im going to clean it right now. I have a lot of acetone
Kicking around, not quite brake cleaner but will degrease.
I have to go look up indexing the barrel then try that as well.
When I was shooting before I had Blazers and while there was the occasional misfire nothing jammed up. Will clean, degrease, and try to find some Blazers again.

@stuff55 it had problems before but not consistent. I could easily blame that all on the ammo. I Could have fudged something but I didn't force anything just methodical dissemble and reassemble. I did however lube everything as I went, so hoping decreasing does the magic.

@leadloader Does your mag have a centered ramp? Has anyone filed down their own mag.

Thanks for all the replies.

yup both mags are centered, no issues at all with them, only the occasional jam when the inside of the action turns black carbon colour all over and slows down the bolt movement. ill post a pic of both if i can.

K gonna order a new mag as well. Decided even if I did file metal from the right side it would be a sloppy Guide for the bullet.
Also found build up that could easily have prevented the rims being compressed. Looking forward to shooting again. She chucks the lead pretty darn straight when she shoots.
Thanks for all your input. Will let you know the results in a few weeks.

I have a Lakefield 64 i shot for the first time this w/e and from time to time it horribly shaved a bullet causing stock rounds half way in the chamber. It also caused the rounds to bend a little bit "not as bad as yours". After examining the chamber i immediately saw theres no feeding ramp and the edge of the chamber is almost as sharp as a dull knife. With the mag not positionning the bullet perfectely, the bullet gets shaved at the point to make them unusable. So, my next step is to make the bottom edge of the chamber more welcoming for incoming rounds. Im convince it will take care of that issue. Hope it helps you a bit.

I bought a 64F new last spring and didn't get to shoot it for about 3 month's till I went on a road trip to Manitoba. ( I spend 6 month's a year there). Right off the first shots I was having a loading issue. The bullet would come out of the clip on a bit of an angle, thus jamming. My solution was to file down the lips on the clip just a fraction and worked great after that. I also had a spare brand new clip from a 64B that I had owned in the past and I had to also file it down to work flawlessly in the 64F.

I find the American Eagle hollow points to be the most accurate in this rifle.

Seems the back end of my mag is pretty messed up too. Like the extractor is smashing into it. Maybe causing the rims to get lodged pretty tight and the metal guides of the mag to be hammered in and flared out. Is the mag seating too far in?
