My Savage 64F just nicking the rim of the shell and not firing, happens 2-3 times per 10 round magazine.

Has anyone experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?

Thanks.

Has the gun been "dry fired"? Quite a bit?

When was the last time you gave the action and all related parts a good cleaning?

Can you post a picture of one of the rounds?

I'm thinking it may be dirty or have a chipped firing pin.

Firing pin is not chipped, gun has been cleaned meticulously several times and it doesn't seem to help.

Looked like the firing pin was contacting the end of the barrel more than the round so I tried filing a hair off the firing pin (avoiding the part that touches the rim).

I'm wondering if maybe the magazine is contacting the bolt and keeping it from going all the way forward.

Could it be that there is too much room between where the round sits in the bolt and the extractor? Allowing for too much room resulting in insufficient contact by the firing pin?

I will see about loading pictures, basically what is happening is the firing pin is hitting the rim but not enough to fire the round. It's not bad ammo, the problem has persisted through may ammo types. If you press forward on the charging handle every time the the gun will go off every time.

Maybe if I drop a nickle in the back of the receiver it will put more pressure on the spring and fix my problem :p

Well, I am going to bow out for now. I'm hoping someone more knowledgable than I can help you.

I have not been running it dry, I will try that too. Thanks.

Seems counter intuitive to me, but I've enjoyed mine for 25+ years, and still going well. I hated it for the first couple of years I owned it, but an 'Ol timer set me straight on keeping it clean, and dry.

Every once in a while I'll try a different lube, chastise myself for knowing better when it starts jamming, and run it dry again.
